While not the 'sexiest' knife out there, there are not many knives that you could say are honestly better.-The heat treating on the blade is excellent. This is critical to getting and keeping a good edge. -The carbon steel blade is VERY easy to sharpen and stays sharp well. Much easier to get a razor edge on this type of steel than stainless steel. -While some people incorrectly think it does not have a full lenth tang, it does. It does not have a full WIDTH tang, but is considered a full LENGTH. The tang stops about 1/4" from the end of the handle. This blade is available without a handle on several knife making websites, if you wish to see a photo of the tang length without the handle installed. -'Scandi' grind for the blade edge is different than traditional hollow ground or beveled edges. I bought this because of the great Mora reputation- this knife lives up to that reputation and more. When I first pulled it out of the sheath the handle seemed to mold to my hand. The material is slightly soft, but still tough. I barely touched the edge of the blade and it seemed to grab at my skin, I knew there was no way I could safely run my finger along the blade. This knife is sharp! Kind of looks like a kitchen knife, but pick it up and you can tell right away this is a superior tool. Made to take into the woods and be used, not to look pretty. The sheath is nothing to write home about, but it's not that bad either- plastic, but functional. The sheath retains the knife quite nicely. I'm more than satisfied with this purchase. A great knife and a great deal, a steal at this price. Get this knife, you won't regret it. 45 of 57 people found the following review helpful Step backwards from the former Triflex model, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mora Bushcraft Triflex Carbon Steel Knife (Sports) I just finished reviewing this knife for my youtube channel: bushcraftknifereview. Prior to the 2011 remakes, the triflex was my favorite Mora knife. The steel, which has the most flexibility of any of their blades, is also the easiest to keep shaving sharp. The sheath was a vast improvement, but I was very disappointed with the handle. Before anyone overreacts and tells me that I am crazy, please allow me to explain. When you do serious bushcraft and spend days or weeks outside, one of the primary cutting motions that you use is the chest lever pull. Essentially, this requires the user to hold the knife sideways in his hand with his thumb rested on the base of the blade. The wood is then drawn across the blade for maximum power and control. The problem with the new Mora series is that the ergonomic handles, fantastic when using a traditional grip, fail to perform with alternate grips. They are a recipe for discomfort and blisters. Don't believe me? Do 5 hours of chest... Read more |
