5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Purchase, no Remorse!!!!, February 8, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
Despite leaving the Boy Scout program as a Weblo many, many years ago, I have always had somewhat of an obsessive compulsive desire to be "Well Prepared" for whatever activity I might be undertaking at the moment. Raised to love and respect the outdoors in a very traditional, red-blooded American way, I have developed quite an affinity for all the tools used in the pursuit of adventure in the "wild". Coming in as a solid 3 on my Top Ten "Don't leave home without 'em" items are Flashlights/Headlamps. Over the years I have owned and/or used nearly every kind of illumination tool available. I have a nice collection of mid-level quality flashlights that are strategically placed around the house and in all my vehicles and "emergency kits". While I am pleased with the various Pelican and Streamlight flashlight I own, I have not, until recently, acquired any "High Quality" illumination tools. After reading hundreds of reviews and narrowing my list of desirable headlamps down to 2, the... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for caving. Don't get anything less powerful than this., January 4, 2012

This review is from: Princeton Tec Apex 200 Lumen Headlamp (Sports)
As impressive as this light is compared to 40 and 50 dollar headlamps, I would not recommend anything less powerful for serious outdoor activities like caving, running, or biking. I think this brightness should be the bare minimum for such outdoor activities.

I used it exclusively on the brightest, "maxbright" HIGH spotlight setting. It was used in several caves so far and I'm very pleased. Walking behind some fellow cavers, I was able to light up their path as well. In fact, this light was so bright compared to their 20 dollar energizers that when the apex was on, I could not tell if their lights were on or off! I was able to walk much quicker and navigate some dangerous terrain with confidence.
Even on the "maxbright" LOW spotlight, this light outshines the 40 dollar 'Tikka XP' lamps.

Only complaint is the brightness level of the 4-led floodlight. In situations where you need to tread carefully, I would not recommend using it on the floodlight settings... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Good at first, then plastic decays, May 9, 2012
By
When I bought it it worked great, using it for light duty around the house. But then it developed the condensation problem another reviewer mentioned. Princeton Tec replaced it with a new one. Since then, the battery holder lost one of its headband guides and now I see that the plastic of the lamp body is broken away where one screw kept it closed and is cracked at the other screw fastening point. I don't know if this is just a bad batch of plastic, but for a premium-priced item used in a low-stress setting (not like caving or any such thing) it should not have suffered three different failures. Very disappointing. I will update after getting in touch with Princeton Tec.
