5.0 out of 5 stars They hog the ground all right!, September 18, 2011

This review is from: JOGR 8 Pack Ultralight Aluminum Alloy Tent Stakes Y Beam (Misc.)
I purchased 16 of these alloy tent stakes along with a new tent. The tent came with 16 of the straight metal stakes with a 90 degree bend on the top - not the best but they should work. The first day I set up the tent for a test run and to seam seal it, and I used the straight metal stakes. Within 10 minutes, a moderate gust of wind yanked the tent and stakes right out of the ground - it was quite surprising. Fortunately, I was right there to pull the tent down. So, I grabbed these alloy stakes and pounded them in leaning away from the tent at a 45 degree angle. The tent stood rock solid for the next two windy days while the seam sealer dried. I pulled the stakes out with no problems or broken/damaged spikes. The stakes appeared to be well made.

During our camping vacation (this is NOT repeat NOT a drill), the tent was staked down with these stakes. It was VERY windy for several days, and all the spikes remained in the ground VERY firmly. I had to really pull to... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars These are not genuine Ground Hog stakes, March 19, 2012

The title of this item is deceiving. These are a knock-off, imitation brand. I used these in addition to a pack of authentic ground hog stakes on a recent camping trip. 3 of the 8 of these stakes got bent, and none of the authentic Ground Hog brand stakes did. The knock-offs are missing the loop string on them as well.

By reading other reviews, you can see that the product description has changed from "These stakes are 7" long and are unbranded MSR groundhog pegs. They only weigh .5 ounce each" to "These stakes are 7" or 9" long and are nearly identical to MSR groundhog pegs. They are Ultralight!". The product title should be changed as well to remove "Ground Hog" and deceiving others.

3.0 out of 5 stars good stakes, but no better than Coghlan brand, March 7, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
These are good stakes, but honestly they are no better than the identical Coghlan brand stakes you can buy at Academy. I got these stakes in 7 inch length which turned out to be too short for my needs (my fault, not theirs) so I went to Academy and got a 4 pack of identical 9 inch Coghlan brand stakes $2.50 (price equivalent to $5 for 8 Coghlan stakes vs. $15.50 for 8 of the 9 inch stakes like this). I have used both and cannot tell the difference. Seriously, they are clones of each other in all respects other than the color: same design, same dimensions (other than length) and as far as I can tell, the same material. Oh, and the Coghlan stakes even come with nylon cord already tied in a loop on each stake for easier pulling - I had to tie my own cord on the 7 inch ones of these. Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on these when you can get identical stakes for 1/3 the price. There is nothing wrong with them, they are good stakes, but they are overpriced in my opinion.
